So, a week ago Monday I started coming down with something. I thought it was a virus. I had to call out of waitressing Tuesday night, Subbing Wednesday morning, Camp Fire Wednesday afternoon, Subbing Thursday morning (which was a Thurs/Friday job)... by then I was out almost $300... so Thursday night even though I was only at about 50% energy I dragged myself into waitressing. Well, Friday morning I really regretted it! So, no Camp Fire on Friday afternoon either. Saturday morning, I drag myself again in to my double shift at waitressing. Almost everyone is sniffing, coughing and sneezing. I learned that I most likely have Cedar Fever... which, being from CA, had never heard of. (you should Google "Cedar Fever"... I did, and wished I hadn't) It is an allergy special to central Texas because of all the Cedar trees in the area. It is not just a normal allergy though! I guess there are several degrees of it... but I had it bad! I had fevers off and on, lots of congestion/drainage/coughing... I basically didn't get out of my pajamas for 4 days straight. I also only got up to eat or go to the bathroom... and check email and facebook of-course. :) Sunday I also didn't get out of my pajamas... I thought it was bad after a single shift... oh man I thought I was going to die after 13 hours!
Anyway... it seems to be getting better. Today is the first day that I didn't have to blow my nose and cough up stuff (sorry!) for an hour after being awake. It is also the first day I haven't had to go back to sleep after only being up a few hours. I actually had energy to go to the store.
Which brings me to my next thing... last night at work, I burned several layers of skin off of my finger at work. (If you have me on Facebook, you already know that). I was getting a Fajita skillet out of the window and someone started talking to me, so I turned my head. Now, our skillets have two parts. A black plastic part, that the metal silver plate sits in, and the metal silver plate. Now the metal silver plates are stored in the oven.... the whole night... they go straight from being washed to the HOT oven. Okay, so back to my story... I was holding onto the black part before I turned my head and didn't have a good enough grip so I slid my pointer finger a little bit further up... thinking I had room. Well, not so much! I felt the most pain I have ever experienced in my life (I've broken bones, and had root canals!) I touched the silver part. Only for the amount of time it took my nerves to tell my brain... but that was long enough! I immediately went to the sink and ran it under cold water... but I still had customers... so I had to continue my shift.
I sprayed burn cream on it about 50 million times, I also got a cup of ice and was holding my finger on it as much as I could..... which apparently you should not do. (I'll explain in a bit). So I continued my shift marveling at the inch by half inch of skin that no longer existed on my finger. When I got done, I went to my car, and got my phone and called my mom. Well, she has bible study on Tuesday nights, and they weren't done yet (and probably praying) and so I got the answering machine. So, I called Sue Donaldson (she's family, and her husband is a doctor!) Well, Mark was asleep. But I started crying about how much it hurt and I didn't know what to do to it... it was 11:00 pm in Texas, which means everything is closed. So, she said she would call around and call me back. So she called Megan Boragine and Megan said I needed to go to a MedStop or the ER. Well, MedStops aren't open that late, and I didn't want to go to the ER fearing the cost... and not knowing where a hospital is around here. So, Sue said she would try and find more info and call me back. In the meantime, my mom calls me back and I start crying again... but then Sue called and I got off the phone with my mom to find out what Sue had found out. She looked up online, and was reading stuff to me that would help burns. While she was reading we found out that ice is the worst thing to put on a burn, because it is too cold (cool water is fine... but not ice), HELLO... it's the reason you get frostbite if you are in ice too long! So, it is probably partially my fault that it hurt for 3 1/2 hours... but it was warm to the touch for most of that time. So I went home and put some Vitamin E lotion on my burn, and then took 3 advil before going to bed. When I woke up this morning... there was NO PAIN!!!! Also, my top layer of skin had completely grown back!!!! God is so AMAZING!!! Can you believe that in 7 hours my skin had grown back???!!!! Sorry... that's not evolution! That is a creator who loves us and wants our bodies to heal!
Anyway, that's why you still don't have pictures of my apartment... b/c I've done nothing but sleep, watch TV, blow my nose, cough, eat chicken noodle soup, and drink as much Vitamin C and EmergenC as possible for the last 8 days! (oh and 3 waitressing shifts)
I can't believe that it is February already... where did January go???? I miss everyone so much! Especially last night when I was thinking if I was in SLO I could've gone straight to the Donaldson's, Leece's, Woods', Boragine's or the Rowan's and gotten some "medical help"... I really need to make some Doctor and Nurse friends here!!! :) Miss you all and love you!!! I'll post pictures of the apartment soon.... promise!
